World book day fever hit John Whitgift Academy on Thursday 2nd March when staff dressed as their favourite literary characters to help celebrate authors, illustrators, books and reading as part of this annual global event.
Tutor time saw the "Drop everything and read" programme introduced and the launch, to students, of the Readathon, which is a fantastic scheme to promote reading for pleasure, as well as raising money for charity. Students are given a sponsorship card and set their own personal reading target to achieve before the closing date. We will be making it a competition with prizes for most time spent reading (whole class and individual) and most money raised.
The money collected goes to CLIC Sargent (a cancer charity which supports children and young people), Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity (helping children with serious neurological or blood conditions) and ReadWell (who provide books for children in hospital).
