John Whitgift Academy Curriculum Model
The week is broken down into 25 lessons, 5 a day, of a one hour duration. A period 6 session is offered from 2.30- 3:30pm every day in certain subjects areas,
All students study 5 periods of English and Maths, 4 hours of Science, 3 hours of Humanities, 2 hours of Modern Foreign Languages and 1 hour of Music, Food Technology, Computer Science and Life (Person, Social and Health Education).
All students study 5 periods of English, 4 hours of Maths, Science and Humanities, 2 hours of Modern Foreign Languages and 1 hour of Music, Food Technology, Computer Science and Life (Person, Social and Health Education).
A small cohort in years 7 and 8 may benefit from extra English lessons.
The week consists of 4 hours of English, Maths and Science, 3 hours of options subjects one taken from each option block ( A: French, Geography, History, B: Business Studies, Art, Music, C; Engineering, Sports BTEC, I.T) , 2 hours of P.E and 1 Life lesson and 1 support lesson (where the student needs intervention).
Those entering the EBAC route would do 2 periods a week of a Modern Foreign Language- including French or German.
Years 10 and 11
All students study a core of 5 periods of English, Maths and Science, 4 periods of support/ intervention and 1 hour of P.E.
Option A students are dedicated to 3 hours chosen from a wide range of subjects including French, Geography, History and German.
Option B students are dedicated to 5 hours of Engineering, Art, Sports BTEC and Health and Social Care. This is to give students a chance of certificating at the end of Year 10 and allows them to pick up an extra qualification in Year 11 but only if they are ready.
All students in Year 11 will also complete an ECDL qualification.
