JWA presents the Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Athletic competition

On the 10th July, the PE team of John Whitgift Academy and The Academy Grimsby organised the Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Athletics Day, which was a complete success! Located at King George V Stadium, schools from Grimsby and Cleethorpes took part, including Cleethorpes Academy, Healing Academy, Humberston Academy, Oasis Academy Immingham, Tollbar Academy, Beacon Academy, Havelock Academy, Oasis Academy Wintringham, Ormiston Maritime Academy, John Whitgift Academy and The Academy Grimsby.

JWA took 50 talented students from years 7-10 who took part in various events: hurdles, 1500m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay, shot, discus, javelin, triple jump, long jump and high jump.

The girls’ track events took place in the morning whilst the boys did their field events, swapping over after lunch. The results are as follows:

  • year 7 girls -1st division 2
  • year 7 boys-2nd division 2
  • year 8 girls-2nd division 2
  • year 8 boys-2nd division 2
  • year 9 girls 3rd-division 2
  • year 9 boys-5th division 2
  • year 10 girls-5th division 2
  • year 10 boys-4th division 2

Special mention for Cole Lambert (year 8) who took part in year 9 boys’ activities, completing the 800m, 1500m and the triple jump.

A massive well done to all who participated, the behaviour was exemplary and all were a credit to the school.
