JWA visit the Grimsby Skills Fair

The whole of year 10 attended the Skills Fair at Grimsby Auditorium on the 12th July. The event was to show the students just what opportunities are on offer in the NE Lincs region and beyond.  Students were able to discuss careers with both Franklin and Grimsby Institute, as well as representatives from The British Army, The Royal Navy, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, the NHS and many other local companies.

One of the more popular attractions at the Fair was the animal care area. Students spoke to staff about veterinary care careers and how to apply for work experience. The bravest students were able to hold a variety of large insects and animals including stick insects, giant cockroaches and even a skunk. Another popular attraction was from the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service who had a virtual reality headset which showed crew reacting to a car accident, which was of interest to many students.

Student SS said, “We were able to talk to people, ask questions and also sign up for more information on the subjects that we are interested in.”

LSA, Mrs Smith, said, “All the students have enjoyed the experience, gaining knowledge of a raft of careers. It is great to see them getting so involved with the representatives and business people. There is a real buzz amongst the year 10 students.”
